My goodness, I can't believe we've already been in our home for over two years. Jarrod and I spent so many years dreaming about what our home would look like when we could finally buy another home together. The time between when we left our first home on Carolyn Dr. and when we were allowed to purchase again after the short sale seemed to take forever, but it all worked out perfectly....
I spent all those years dreaming about the perfect neighborhood where the kids could make friends and play outside and make memories that they'll remember for a lifetime. I dreamt of having a kitchen where the kids could sit at the island and do their homework while I made dinner and they told me all about what they learned and who they sat by at lunch. I dreamt about Christmases and sleepovers and meeting new friends.
And man....we love this house! We love how open the layout is and how we're always together, even when I'm in the kitchen working. We love the screened in porch that we added last spring and how we can sit out there with a cup of coffee and never have to worry about the bugs. We love how the kids have their own space upstairs so we don't have toys all over downstairs. We love how close we are to school and how we can walk there on good weather days.
If we had to do it again, I think I'd make a few changes. I love that all our bedrooms are on the main floor but I'd make sure there weren't any near the front door. I often wonder if the kids would sleep in a little later if they didn't hear Jarrod leaving for work. Lately, we've been talking about Riley beginning piano lessons, and I really wish we had a good spot in the house to put a piano for her.
But you know, even with all the dreams we had about this house, we never could have dreamt about the amazing friendships that Jarrod and I have made. I was so focused on all the amazing things that this home would mean for Gavin and Riley, and I never even thought about the relationships that us adults would create. We've been so lucky to have made such amazing friends in our two years on Nottingham. I love how we all get together for drinks and dinners. I love how we spend time together at the pool in the summer and at one another's homes in the winter. I love the way we all look out for each other's kids and families. I love how we all pitch in and help with projects on the house. I love how we all step up and watch one another's pets and water each other's flowers. I just love this little community and all the friendships it has created for us.
