A Shower for Sister

You always hear stories about how the second baby gets "forgotten" in a sense.  There are always more pictures of the first baby than the second.  We used to joke about this in our family.  There are tons of pictures and a video of Tyler's birth, but no one was even there when Briana was born, so none of that...  Another example is a baby shower.  I know it's not common for a baby shower to take place for a second baby, but I admit it did kind of make me sad.  Not because I wanted an excuse to get more gifts.  Not that I wanted the attention on me.  It was because I remember all the excitement at Gavin's shower - all your friends and family there to celebrate this new life.  And I got sad to think about the baby shower section of Baby Sister's baby book - I guess that part just gets left blank in so many baby books.  I didn't want her to think she hadn't been celebrated.  But, I was content with the thought of not having a big celebration for her and figured we wouldn't have a shower.

Then, in walked Amy...

She asked me about throwing a shower for me and I told her no way!  Amy is 38 weeks pregnant right now!  That was just crazy...I couldn't imagine her planning a shower.  But, she insisted and said she wasn't planning to have anything at her house, but thought a small group of girls getting together at a restaurant would be perfect.  And you know what?  It was!

It seemed like almost all my friends were having babies at the same time I had Gavin, and I had all these amazing people to go through pregnancy with.  It was great.  And now, I feel so lucky that I've found a group of moms here that make me feel welcome and are sweet enough to gather with me and celebrate Baby Sister.  

Amy really outdid herself and despite being weeks away from her second son being born, planned a super cute shower.  The diaper cake she made was one of the cutest things ever!

And here are some pics of the night - lots of great girl talk, appetizers, and cake!  My camera died so I'll add some more pictures later when I get the ones Amy took on her camera, too.

Baby Sister got a lot of cute things.  Blankets, bibs, socks, dresses and outfits, burp cloths, car seat accessories, an Itzbeen timer, a calendar, wipes, bath necessities, a sling...  I'm sure I'm forgetting something!  It was a great night!

Thank you Amy, Jennifer, Andrea, Stacey, Rebekah, Megan, and Lindsay for coming out to make the night so memorable.  I so lucky to have so many sweet friends in my life!

Wordless Wednesday

Making Progress!

Just wanted to share some of the progress we've made on the nursery and baby things.  It's a great feeling to be getting things done, especially when you think about how close we really are!  Gavin was born at 38 weeks, coming on his own (not with me being induced), so if Baby Sister follows in his footsteps we could have as little as 6 weeks left!  That's a little scary!

I finally found some hardware at Hobby Lobby for the dressers that I loved!

I've also been working on her closet.  We got a shoe organizer to hang on the inside of the door to help organize all the little things, and I made little dividers to hang on the rod to help organize the clothes more.  

We also got the car seat and bassinet into the house and all cleaned up.  I had to take the bassinet apart so we could wash everything, and of course, my little helper had to be there to put it back together again.  He's such a big help!

I'm making some progress on my to-do list, too.  Almost all the magazines have been gone through like I wanted, and I've also retaught myself the basic stitches of crochet, but I don't think my goal of making baby hats is going to work out.  I don't think I'll get that far!  I'm planning to tackle the closet this week while Jarrod is out of town.

We're making a lot of progress....I wish we could say the same about the baby name!

32 Weeks!

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 32 Weeks

Size of baby: Baby Hamm is probably around 4 lbs and 19 inches long right now, if she's growing as expected.   

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +2 lbs from 2 weeks ago (since I never updated last week) - so I'm gaining about a pound a week, just as I'm supposed to be at this point.  I'm up a total of 28lbs right now.

Maternity Clothes: Absolutely!

Gender: It's a GIRL!!!  When the name is decided, it will be kept a secret until she arrives. 

Movement: This baby seems to never stop moving lately!  She's so active, especially at night and when I'm eating.  I love it!

Sleep: Sleep has been going downhill thanks to the million times I have to wake up to pee!

What I miss:  Buying a normal amount of toilet paper!  Seriously, we're going through TP so fast right now thanks to all my potty breaks!

Cravings: Water - drinking a ton lately!  And sweets...of course! :)

Symptoms:  Braxton Hicks contractions happen daily, heart burn has come back, and now I wake up in the middle of the night to tingling fingers.  Apparently, that's a bit of carpal tunnel that pregnant women get sometimes.

Best Moment this week:  Hearing Gavin talk about baby names....he's hooked on Aveeno (or Aveena) and Abacus right now.  Strange names! :)

 

Recipe - Pasta Isabarte

I have still tried to continue on with my resolution to make a new recipe each week, but to be honest, with vacation, my aunts visiting, and Jarrod's baseball schedule, we haven't stuck with a menu very well.  I sat down last Thursday to make our menu and realized our next week looked like this:

Friday - date night

Saturday - Jarrod had two games

Sunday - I have a playgroup baby shower, so I won't be home for dinner

Monday - Yay!  We can have dinner together!

Tuesday and Wednesday - Jarrod will be gone for work

Thursday - I have my baby shower

A couple weeks ago, we did make this new pasta recipe that was really good.  Pasta Isabarte

We, of course, left out the egg because Jarrod isn't a fan.  I will say that we didn't use as many veggies - I used leftover peppers and onions so done of them were whole, and there were a TON of veggies.  I loved that, but Jarrod did pick some out.  

I'm hoping after this next busy week, we can get back on track.  By then, baseball will be over!
