My Birthday Storm!

We were forecasted to get a big storm, starting with sleet and freezing rain on my birthday and turning to snow.  It definitely happened!  Still, 4 days later, roads are pretty much ice covered and the snow is still piled up.  With temperatures in the teems and 20s, it doesn't seem to be melting any time soon.  We were scheduled to get another light dusting today, but it's been snowing hard for the past hour and is quickly piling up.  And, apparently there's another storm headed our way for next week!  Kind of crazy considering they aren't supposed to get snow like this here!   These pics are mostly taken from inside, but it was too cold or coming down too hard to go out.

This was the beginning of the storm, when the sleet was falling and adding up!

Looking out at the walk after Jarrod shoveled.

Looking out of the back door at the patio...notice the snow piled up so high we can't really open the door without the snow falling in!

Recipe - Chicken Tortilla Soup

We tried our new recipe for the week last night, and it was delicious!  My friend, Lindsay, has basically ruined canned soup for me.  I used to always eat canned soup, but ever since she made me homemade chicken noodle soup, I can't eat it!  It just makes me gag.  So, we've mastered some homemade chicken noodle soup, but this time, I tried a Fitness Magazine recipe for Chicken Tortilla Soup and it was super easy and super good!  You can check it out here: Chicken Tortilla Soup  The only thing different we did was not add the green pepper, only because they looked awful at the grocery, so I didn't buy one.  It was great!  Enjoy!

Our Spring Tease

Ok - time to backtrack a little.  So, before we got this snow storm, we were teased by Mother Nature with a 73 degree day on Saturday.  It was gorgeous!  I took Gavin for a walk, he played outside while I cleaned the car, and after nap, we took him to the park.  It was such a great day...but only made me more excited about spring!  Gavin loves the park, especially the swings.

I snapped this photo of my shadow to see what my baby bump looked like.

Then, Jarrod had a similar idea and snapped the photo below on the right of our shadows while I pushed Gavin on the swings.

So, we went from 73 on Saturday to 16 yesterday.  This morning we woke up to -6 degree weather.  Fun stuff!  But, at least we know that spring is on its way!

Snow Storm!

I've been spending my birthday having fun with my little boy and enjoying a very snowy day!  Jarrod actually went to work late so we had a nice breakfast together, and then he came back home around lunch.  I will post some pictures soon, but for now, I just wanted to share some pics I took from Facebook.  These are the shelves of one of our local Walmarts last night...everyone stocked up before the storm hit for sure!  And, the distribution center even shut down, so no restocking anytime soon!
