Talkin' with a Toddler

I don't know if Riley is technically considered a toddler anymore, but she sure says the funniest things!  I wanted to write some down so I could be sure to remember them.

After a rather grouchy morning ride to school to drop off Gavin, I told her she probably needed to go back into her room when we got home until she could be happier, and she shouted back that I should go to my room.  The conversation continued...
Me: That's fine, Riley.  I'll go to my room and lock myself in there for some Mommy Time.
Riley: {instantly cheered up and laughing...} You can't do that, silly.  I don't know the password for the iPad!

Another random conversation out of the blue recently...
Riley: Mom, I wish I could have a star right here on my nipple. {Uhh....????}
Me: Why would you have a star on your nipple?
Riley: I don't know.  Some girls do. {I'm getting scared at this point...}
Me: What girls do you know who have stars on their nipples?!?!
Riley: Sheriff Callie.

Riley's also pretty obsessed with wedding stuff right now.  She'd LOVE to have a wedding dress in her dress up closet.  She had a dream one night that she was marrying Gavin, and she wore a
white dress with pink birds on it, a really long purple veil, and wore green beads.  She has such the fashion sense, right?  And then there was this conversation...
Riley:  Mom, did you know sometimes, when a girl is getting married, she cries at the wedding?
Me: Yes, I did know that.  Mommy cried when she was marrying Daddy actually.
--She paused, and then got really serious.--
Wait, were they happy tears or sad tears???
Haha!

Talking with a Toddler

Looking through my blog books, I remembered some of the different 'series' ideas I once did on the blog, like Talking with a Toddler, where I shared lots of cute things Gavin once said.  I really want to start writing down things Riley says, because sometimes they're so funny.  So, let's start with this one that just happened...

Me:  Riley, please go to your room to calm down and you can come out when you're happy.

Riley:  Don't tell me what to do mom.  You're making me very mad right now.

{Followed by her slamming her bedroom door...}
Time to get really worried about life in 12 years!  Yikes.

Talking with a Toddler

I guess he's not really considered a toddler after he turns 3, is he?  :(  I wanted to share this funny conversation we had this morning, but since we're not sharing the baby's name, I'm substituting other names so you can hear the funny story still.

Me:  Gavin, do you like the name Minnie Mouse for Baby Sister?
Gavin: Yes.
Me: Can you say Minnie Mouse?
Gavin: Minnie Mouse.
Me:  Do you like the name Dora?
Gavin: Yes.
Me: Can you say Dora?
Gavin: Dora.
Me:  Ok, what about the name Big Bird?  Do you like that?
Gavin:  I do!
Me: Can you say that name?
Gavin: Big Bird.
Me:  Ok, which name do you like best?
Gavin: Umm.....Gavin!  :)

Thirteen Thursday

13 of Gavin's favorite phrases right now...

  1. 'That's a super duper great idea!' - though when he says it, it sounds more like 'That's a scooby doo great idea!'
  2. 'Little help here!'
  3. 'My beary beary hungry.' (always said as he is rubbing his belly)
  4. 'I have a big problem.'
  5. 'You think that's funny?'
  6. 'I did that on curpose.' (*purpose*)
  7. 'Don't talk to me like that.'
  8. 'Mom, follow me.'
  9. 'I want to play for two more minutes.'
  10. 'I love your hugs!'
  11. 'I grew up!'
  12. 'I don't want a time out!'
  13. 'I want to drive Shirley crazy!'

Talking with a Toddler

Gavin:  What's in your belly, mom?
Me:  There's nothing in my belly.  What are you talking about?
Gavin:  Yes there is.  It's a ball.
Me:  {Realizing he's remembering when I hid the ball under my shirt while we were playing earlier...}  Oh, is that right?
Gavin:  Yeah, two balls.  See....one, two!

I'll let you imagine what he was pointing to and counting.  Way to make Mommy proud, Gav!

Talking with a Toddler

This kid seriously cracks me up!  He gets funnier every day.  :)

Last night, he was super slap happy and not wanting to go to bed.  As he's walking out of his room with his milk cup, I picked him up and said, "Oh no you don't!  It's time to sleep, dear."  I put him on his bed, and as I walked around to turn on his sound machine, he said, "But, I don't know how to sleep."  I cracked up, which made him laugh even more....it was a silly night trying to get through songs and stories!

This is the conversation I just had with him...
Me:  "We have to clean up this toy room, Gav."
Gavin: "What are you talking about, Mom?"

Talking with a Toddler

Let me set the scene...I'm laying on the couch, watching a little TV after dinner, and Gavin's playing in his toy room.  He comes out with one of his dinosaur figurines, and says, 'ROARRRRRRRRRRR!'  The rest of the conversation, he is still talking in that dinosaur-roar voice.

Me: 'Oooh, a dinosaur!  What color is your dinosaur?'
Gavin: 'Blue!'
Me: 'Is your dinosaur big or little?'
Gavin: 'Big'
Me: 'Is he scary?'
Gavin: 'Yes!'
Me: 'What does your dinosaur eat?'
Gavin: 'Mommies!'

Talking with a Toddler

Gavin's usually very caring when I tell him something hurts.  If I say, 'Mommy's head hurts, will you kiss it?' he happily runs over to make it 'all better.'  On Saturday, while Daddy did swimming class with Gavin, I walked the indoor track at the rec and ended up with a huge blister on the heel of my foot.  So, later that night ----

Me: Gavin, look!  Mommy hurt her foot today. I got a blister!  Will you kiss it and make it better?
Gavin: No, thank you!

Talking with a Toddler

I'm thinking this will become a new 'topic' on the blog.  Gavin and I now have the cutest conversations, and they're definitely worth sharing and worth documenting.  I love hearing him talk!

Both of these conversations happened last night-

We were sitting at the table, me getting coupons ready for our upcoming shopping trip and him looking at library books.  When he was finished, I unbuckled his booster seat and sat back down to finish my coupons.  He came over to me and gave me a kiss.  As he walked away, he said, I love you, Mom.  {{and my heart melts!}}
Me: Aw, thanks.  I love you, too, baby.
Gavin: I not a baby.
Me: Oh, sorry.  What are you?
Gavin: A kid.
Me: Ok, I love you, kid.

Me: Come on, we have to go get you in the bath.
Gav: Why?
Me: Because you're dirty!
He looks down at himself and then back at me and says, I not dirty.

Talking with a toddler is so entertaining!
