The night we got home from the hospital, Riley had her first Skype meeting with Mommy's family in Cincinnati!  :)

Sibling Love

As I've mentioned before, Gavin wasn't for sure how to react with Riley being here.  I, of course, envisioned all these adorable photo ops of the two of them in the first few hours of us being home, but he wasn't interested.  Finally, when Riley was four days old, he actually answered 'yes' when we  asked if he wanted to hold Riley.  I was so excited....and so was he!

And if these pictures are any indication of the future, Gavin is going to have my skin complexion and Riley will have her Daddy's.  Poor Gavin will probably always be pale! 

Two Weeks Already!

I can't believe that Riley is already two weeks old, yet it feels like she's been here forever!  We're adjusting well.  Gavin definitely has had his moments, but I think we're on the upswing.  His sleep really took a hit - naps were shorter than ever and bedtime took up to two hours of screaming and crying before he fell asleep.  We definitely had our fair share of time outs, too.  But, the last couple of days {knock on wood} have been much smoother!


Jackie and Sandy were here for the first week, then my mom came last Friday.  Having the help this time around has been great.  We didn't have anyone stay with us when Gavin was born.  We weren't this far away from our families at that time, and I was able to sleep whenever he slept so I got the rest I needed.  This time, though, I'm not able to rest as much because of Gavin, so having family here to entertain Gavin has been so wonderful.  After mom leaves on Thursday, we're on our own!


Riley has been a very easy baby so far.  She doesn't cry much at all.  I actually can't think of a single night so far that she's been up crying in the middle of the night.  She's a very noisy sleeper - we hear her grunting all night.  :)  That's usually what wakes me up so I know to get up to feed her.  She makes the funniest faces!  We love her facial expressions.  She's just like Gavin was as a baby - always warm!  Right at 14 days, her umbilical cord fell off.  It was funny because we were just talking about how it hadn't fallen off yet, and then while she was sleeping in her swing, my mom looked down and her cord was laying on her diaper.  Gavin was so excited it came off.  He wanted to put her in the bath right away!


I know it's crazy, but I keep thinking about her labor and delivery and how much I enjoyed it all.  Yes, it was painful {and I screamed a lot!} but I am still so glad that I was able to go epidural-free and I'd love to experience it again.  I'm so thankful I had such a great birth experience that was quick and complication-free.  I'm feeling quite lucky these days.  

Wordless Wednesday

First Bath

I haven't blogged in a while, so I'm going to try to get caught up over the next few days while my mom is still here to help out with the kiddos.  

The day we came home from the hospital we gave Riley her first little sponge bath.  I was excited to share the experience with Gavin.  As soon as I told him we were going to do a bath, he ran in to get her baby bathtub, so we had to talk about her cord and how she couldn't actually sit in the tub yet.  After that he wasn't quite interested in helping out.  

She did pretty well during bath time - she cried, but not as much as Gavin did during his first sponge bath.  As soon as I wrapped her up in her towel, she peed all over.  :)
